The Fort Lee Fire Prevention Bureau is presently staffed by nine full time employees of the borough and is responsible for all code enforcement of local and state fire codes within the Borough of Fort Lee.
The professional and friendly secretarial staff of the Fire Prevention Bureau will assist the public with any questions concerning applications for Certificate of Occupancy (CO), Continuing Certificate of Occupancy (CCO), Police and Fire Alarm Registration, Invalid Location Program, Tot Finders Program and applications for the Fire Dept. Key Vault. In addition, they will schedule inspection appointments for the inspectors and issue all Fire Safety permits.
The fire inspector's regular duties consists of investigation of complaints, routine fire inspections, fire lane enforcement, smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector compliance, plan review and fire safety education. All inspectors are trained and certified as medical First Responders and are certified in the use of defibrillators. They are also trained as fire investigators to determine the origin and cause of fires, explosions and hazardous material spills. In addition, the Fire Prevention Bureau responds to all active fire alarms while they are on duty to relieve the burden of response from the Fort Lee Fire Department. Each inspector is assigned a vehicle which is equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), personal protective equipment (PPE), forcible entry tools, carbon monoxide detectors, full medical supplies with includes oxygen and external automatic defibrillators (EAD).
